Teams will be assigned TWO Friday's which they will lead a group event for the class in SIM 100. This may be ice breaker games, educational activity or an activity of your choosing. Activities should have the approval of the instructor prior to the event day.  The purpose of these activities is to provide the student with practice and exposure to leading activities as well as a number of activity ideas.   Groups must submit an ACTIVITY PLAN one week prior to their designated activity leading dates. Only ONE activity plan per group is required for the first and second activity.  ALL ACTIVITY PLANS MUST BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY.

2. Leadership Paper (Due 2/2): 25 POINTS
Students must type a 2-3 page double spaced paper about a person that they consider to be a leader.  Why do you consider this person to be a leader? What are the qualities or traits that make them a leader?

3. Field Experience Observation:  (Due 4/18):  25 POINTS
Each student must observe a recreation program leader "in action". Activities must be led by a full-time
professional and not a student from SDSU. Examples of acceptable program observations are:
Swim
    lessons,  aerobics instruction, aquatic
exercise, an activity class (yoga, dance, etc.) - not a class or practice
    in which you currently participate.

·         Must be three pages in length (one-inch margins, 12-pt type, double-spaced, no cover page).

·         Describe the situation that you observed - Date, time of day, program, leader (gender, age, race), who
were the participants (gender, age, race), how many, interactions, and general mood.

·         Analyze the leader's technical, human relations and conceptual skills as they are related to the
class/activity that they are leading. Tie this information to the reading and class discussion when possible.

·         Classify the type of leadership style that the individual under observation portrayed - Why? Provide
support based on leader, group and situation

·         You must get the signature of the leader on a program listing/guide from the activity observed
     and attach to paper.

4. Special Event (4/13-4/29): Activity (25 points), Portfolio (25 points), Peer Evaluation (25 points)
Groups of approximately 4-5 students (same groups throughout the semester) will be responsible for executing a special event, program, games, or activity during class time. The group is responsible for securing all equipment or supplies for the class. The group is not responsible for securing the physical space necessary for the program, unless it meets outside of our regular classroom, field, or gymnasium. Each group will plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a recreational activity or sport program. This is a group effort; therefore all documents will be graded as such. Each group will do peer evaluations to evaluate each other's participation in the event. Please do not wait until the last moment to prepare your activity.  Be sure to select an activity that involves planning and preparation. Be creative and keep the time of year and weather in mind for activity ideas. Several documents must be submitted in a binder for a grade (4/29).
