College of Nursing Laptop Computer Requirement

The College of Nursing (CON) utilizes computer assisted learning throughout all five. semesters of the nursing major. To insure students have hardware and software that interfaces with technology in the CON, students are required to purchase one of the Gateway computer models available through and serviced by eSDSU.

The eSDSU Laptop Program and Gateway collaborate to provide extensive hardware and software support to faculty and students. The eSDSU Laptop Program is a Certified Authorized Service Provider for Gateway laptop computers and has the ability to troubleshoot. eSDSU has on hand, and is able to order hardware components directly from Gateway. Any student ordering a Gateway laptop through eSDSU receives a four-year parts and labor warranty, along with a four-year accidental damage protection warranty. To cover loss by theft, students are strongly encouraged to list their Gateway laptop computer on an insurance policy. eSDSU has laptop loaner computers available to students through the program. If computer service will take more than two business days to fix, students will be given a loaner for use. Students who wish to un-bundle the printer/scanner/copier from the package will be permitted to do so.

Beginning with the incoming 1st semester of the major class, January 2008, students are required to purchase full Gateway warranty and maintain the Gateway warranty through out the five semesters of the nursing major. Students can pay to have the Gateway warranties extended if the extension is purchased before the Gateway warranty expiration date. Gateway warranty information will be tracked, and students are required to have the appropriate hardware and Gateway warranty as a condition of participation in the nursing major.

Information related to ordering through the eSDSU program is available through:

http://esdsu.sdstate.edu

Students are not required to own one of the eSDSU models until they are accepted into the nursing major. Students may choose to purchase the computer as a freshman, and then keep the warranty current throughout the program.

Questions about this policy should be directed to: Department Head, Nursing Student Services or the Nursing Computer Support Specialist at 605-688-4106, or 1-888-216-9806, option 4.
