Abstract (Chapter One) A Follow-through Evaluation Study of South Dakota State University College of Nursing Graduates with a Major In Nursing Eleda P. Brotsky 1983 Dimensions of the Problem In this chapter the introduction to the problem, statement of the problem, significance of the project, statement of the purpose, definition of terms, conceptual framework for the study and the study questions will be discussed. Introduction to the Problem During the past decade there had been an increased emphasis on program evaluation in the field of education. Evaluation is done for many reasons and by a variety of people in various capacities. When an educational program or curriculum is being evaluated, the opinions and judgments of administration, faculty, students, and other involved individuals or groups, such as patients, employers, preceptors, or graduates of the program are all important. However, the graduates of the program have a unique vantage point since they have been consumers and are how products of the program. The graduates can provide invaluable information about the quality of the educational system itself and about how well that system prepared them for the world employment or advanced education. (29)
