Abstract

The Lived Experience of Uncertainty in Pregnancy

Jan J. Boge

1994

The concept of uncertainty during pregnancy is the phenomena under study.  A qualitative research method using Parse’s research methodology helps to explain the lived experience of uncertainty in pregnancy.  Using concepts from uncertainty in illness, along with coping as a guide to the study, the concept of uncertainty during pregnancy is analyzed.  The results are expressed as a theoretical construct based on the concepts of Parse’s nursing theory of Human Becoming.  Implications for nursing and education, along with recommendations for further research are discussed.
