Abstract Health-Promoting Behaviors of Adults Who Attend Nurse- Managed Cardiac Risk Screening Clinics in the Rural Midwest Diana L. Berkland 1994 Perceived health status, perceived healthy lifestyle, value of health, and selected demographics were analyzed for their relationship to health-promoting behaviors in 143 adults between the ages of 28 and 86. The non-probability sample was obtained from adults who attended nurse-managed cardiac risk screening clinics. The Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile (Walker, Sechrist, and Pender, 1987) was the instrument used to determine participant in health-promotion activities. The Cronbach’s alpha for the study was 0.91. Major findings of this investigation included evidence of a significant relationship between the variables of age, perceived health status and perceived healthy lifestyle and the individual’s participation in health-promoting behaviors. These findings have implications for nursing and further research. These findings also support, in part, the relationships proposed in the Health Promotion Model.
