New Scholarships

2006 Shaver-Nielsen Nursing Grant from the First Congregational United Church of Church, Rapid City, SD
The Shaver-Nielsen Nursing Grant is a program funded by the Inez L. Shaver Charitable Trust #3, Peggy Nielsen Trustee in partnership with the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Rapid City, SD. Grant recipients must be residents of the State of South Dakota and enrolled in an accredited nursing degree program located in the State of South Dakota. Awards will be made directly to the school of nursing to be applied to the account of the grant recipients. The number of $1,000 grants will be determined by the Grant Committee upon review of the applications. Deadline for application for 2006 grants is May 1, 2006. Arthur Davis Scholarship Fund
Criteria: Students of Butte, Harding, and Lawrence counties who have shown academic excellence and have been active in community and High School. All applicants are required to write a personal statement on: "What the scholarship will enable me to do and why a scholarship is important to me" Two West River students should be awarded. Renewable.

Cindy Miller Scholarship Fund in Nursing

Criteria: Student in his/her senior year in the
West River baccalaureate Nursing Program. Student must have a "B" average or better and demonstrate financial need.

Dr. Jerome and Ann Karmiol Scholarship

St John's/Rapid City Regional School of Nursing Scholarship
Criteria: Attending the SDSU West River program and be in good standing and have cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.
 

The Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Nursing Scholarship Fund

Established to assist registered nurses (RN) with advanced preparation for positions in supervision, administration or teaching. Students are to have prospects of being employed in specific positions in hospitals, clinics or health departments on completion of their education and the position must have a full-time and direct relationship to lung and respiratory control. Scholarship awards are $2,500 each.

 Full details may be secured from the local Eight and Forty Scholarship Chairman or The American Legion Education Program, Attn: Eight and Forty Scholarships, PO Box 1055, Indianapolis, IN 46206. Deadline: May 15 and awards announced on July 1.


John and Alice B. Travers Scholarship

Criteria: Preference will be given to students who are residents of
Harding County. Freshmen and Upperclassmen are eligible for this award. This award is renewable.

Last year 370 awards were made for a total of $8,760,800.

Description: Renewable scholarship available for undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral study in health professions and allied health professions programs. Minimum 2.00 GPA required. Award averages $18,500. New applicants must first submit to Area Scholarship Coordinator.
