Visitors in Class/Auditors

Visitors in Class/Auditors

Classes as a general rule are open only to registrants who have paid the course fee.  Visitors in class can be interruptive in several different ways.  Visitors are discouraged unless they will add to the learning of the class or assist the professor teaching or as a single incident to view class process to increase the understanding of the visitor about how classes are conducted.  Approval for visitors should always be obtained from the Undergraduate Nursing Department Head prior to the visit.  The following is a list of different types of visitation and their permissibility.

1. Audit – see topic of Audit in this handbook
2. Visitors are permitted as invited by the professor teaching to observe or speak or as a program reviewer.
3. The occasional visitor is allowed at the professor’s prerogative.
4. Children will not be allowed in class, unless they are part of a presentation for the class.
5. Mothers who are breastfeeding may arrange with the department head for a secure and private place in which breastfeeding may take place on the university premises.  The child must be attended to outside of the classroom.

AUDITING A COURSE

Registration for the audit status is enrollment for informational instruction only.  No credit is earned.  Registration for audit may be done only after registration day by presenting an Audit/Pass/Fail form to the Registrar’s Office.  The AU grade does not calculate into the grade point average.  Audit courses do not count toward full-time student status or for financial aid purposes.  There is a fee for audit as established by the Board of Regents approved tuition and fee rate.  The purpose of auditing a class is to be exposed to the class content without receiving  a grade.  It can be used to prepare the student to take the course for a grade for the next semester.
