| President's Message... I am pleased and honored to greet you as the incoming President of Phi Chapter at South Dakota State University. Phi chapter was installed in 1961 as the 19th chapter in Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). This chapter resulted from forward-thinking student and faculty efforts in 1960 within the College of Nursing at South Dakota State University. Sigma Theta Tau International membership includes nurses living live in more than 92 countries. With more than 405,000 members inducted worldwide and a 130,000 active membership, Sigma Theta Tau International is the second largest nursing organization in the world. Currently more than 450 chapters are found around the world. While serving as chapter president I will focus on supporting Phi Chapter's work of valuing excellence and scholarship in nursing practice. Our work will be committed to supporting Sigma Theta Tau International's vision of creating a 'global community of nurses who lead using scholarship, knowledge and technology to improve the health of the world's people' (STTI, 2007) . I encourage you to participate in meetings and educational events. The date for the Spring Research Day is April 19, 2008 in Sioux Falls. Research Day is an opportunity to learn about new advances in nursing as well as network with other nurses. If you are interested in becoming active with the chapter, please let me know Paula.Carson@sdstate.edu. There are opportunities especially around induction ceremony and research day. If you are interested in presenting at Research Day, watch for the Call for Abstracts which will be posted on this web site. Congratulations and welcome to new inductees from Spring 2007. Please feel free to contact me with any ideas, concerns or comments. I look forward to a very good year. Dr. Paula Carson
