STTI Phi Chapter Members - President Daniel Pesut and the International Board of Directors has instituted a VIProfile which is designed to collect information from members (voluntarily) on their interests to develop a STTI profile of members talents, abilities and special interests. The success depends on dedicated members who desire to serve the organization in a variety of ways. By going to the link below you can fill out the profile and perhaps volunteer your time on a short-term project at the chapter, regional, or international level. Please check this out and consider joining the VIProfile at Sigma Theta Tau.

In WW II, she served as a 1st Lt. army nurse in Europe. After retirement, she worked in nursing programs on the Pine Ridge Reservation (one of her fondest memories).

Evelyn T. Peterson died January 28, 2004 in Evergreen, Colorado at the age of 82.

Memorials may be directed to the SDSU Foundation Graduate Nursing Program or the Alzheimer's Association.

BYLAW Changes from November 1-6, 2003 International Convention Report from Kay Foland, President and Delegate from Phi Chapter.

Several changes were approved by the House of Delegates related to fiscal authority of the board of directors, global membership eligibility and the governance and committee structure.

Below are some of the key changes that were made by the House of Delegates. More information on these changes will be posted soon on the Sigma Theta Tau website.

FISCAL AUTHORITY OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The International Board of Directors and the individual Chapter Boards of Directors will now have the authority to set dues and fees within specified parameters no more than once a biennium. As communicated to members prior to convention, after this amendment was passed, the Board of Directors approved a $10 (USD) membership dues increase effective January 1, 2004.

GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE

Delegates voted to accept the new Governance Structure, which will streamline the International level committees to three, and the chapter committees to two. Chapters will be required to have a minimum of two committees: Governance (Bylaws and Eligibility) and Leadership Succession. To provide fluidity and flexibility, chapters may choose to add additional advisory councils, task forces or committees to conduct the business of the chapter. This transition need not occur immediately; chapters will have the next biennium to transition to this new structure and will be supported during this transition.

GLOBAL MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY

No substantive change to the eligibility requirements was made, but the bylaws were modified to allow for cultural variation and inclusivity while still maintaining high standards. Many chapters have inquired about the outcomes of the changes to the Bylaws, and how those changes will affect their chapter. Please be assured of the following key points:

- chapters will have adequate time to transition to the various changes that were approved

- support will be provided to chapters during this transition
