Classroom Etiquette for Laptops

Guidelines for Classroom use of Laptops and Technology in the Classroom

With new technology and a new way of learning in a mobile atmosphere come special considerations. Below you will see the behavior that is acceptable and unacceptable within the classroom and throughout the College.

The classroom environment must be conducive to learning for all students.  Distractions made possible by advances in technology undermine that goal.  Accordingly, during class, in addition to usual courtesies, kindly

1.  Refrain from using cell phones, pagers, and any other communication device except for your laptop computer.

2.  Refrain from connecting to the internet.

3.  Refrain from displaying wallpaper, screen savers, or other material on your laptop computer that you can reasonably expect to be offensive to other.

In Class

1. When a teacher has requested that your laptops be closed, please close your laptops.
2. Please don't use ICQ, MSN or other chat programs during class.
3. If a guest speaker comes into the class, please give the person your full attention and close your laptops.
4. Refrain from sending documents to the printer during a lecture presentation.

5. After completing a test quietly close your laptop and do not put it away in the carrying case as the noise is distracting to other students.  Return after the test is completed to put away your laptop.

General

Do not say anything in e-mail that you would not want to be overheard at the water fountain.
Please be polite, use correct grammar and spelling in your e-mail. Learn how to use your e-mail spell checker if spelling is not your strong point
