 POLS/HIST 491  INDEPENDENT STUDY:  MODEL UNITED NATIONS

  This course is an opportunity for you to contribute to the Model United Nations Team sponsored by the Political Science Club and receive credit for your efforts.  There are two different ways that you can take advantage of this opportunity.

POLS/HIST 491 INDEPENDENT STUDY:  MODEL UNITED NATIONS DELEGATE, 3 hrs.

Course Requirements:
1.  Represent SDSU as a delegate to the Arrowhead Model United Nations.
2.  Prepare a resolution for consideration by the Model U.N. Due date is February 20.
3.  Present and defend the resolution in Committee.
4.  Manage and defend the resolution in the General Assembly.
5.  Maintain a journal on your experience and any problems and solutions you experienced in the program.

Grading:  Representation, 25%; Resolution, 25%, Presentation and Defense, 25%; Journal 25%.

History majors may not represent the United States and must achieve a grade of C or better.

POLS/HIST 491 INDEPENDENT STUDY:  MODEL UNITED NATIONS RESEARCH ASSISTANCE, 1-3 hrs.

Course Requirements:
1.  Prepare a background paper on a topic assigned by the delegation head on the economic, politics, culture, etc. of one of the countries SDSU is representing in the AMUN.

Paper is due February 20.

 2.  Write one, two or three papers on resolutions proposed by the other delegations to the AMUN depending on registered credits.  In your paper you are to analyze and make an argument, on behalf of the country to whom you have been assigned, on the position(s) to take on the resolution(s).

Paper is due April 8.

History majors may not be a researcher for the United States delegation and must achieve a grade of C or better.

Grading:  Based on the quality of the paper and your research.  Each requirement counts 50% of your grade.  If either is met early, one point bonus credit is available for each day prior to the due date.
