You are invited to participate in the following shiftwork research study:
Social Time Customs and Sleep Disturbances
in American Indian/Alaskan Native Nurse Shiftworkers
Study’s Purpose: To compare sleep disturbances and sleepiness in American Indian/Alaskan Native and White, non-Hispanic nurse shiftworkers. Social time customs and morningness will also be examined. For further information, see consent.
There are two parts (phases) to the study.
Phase one: Subjects will complete an on-line survey about shiftwork habits, sleep, sleepiness, time ,and morningness. Subjects completing the survey will receive a gift certificate for $10.00. Subjects agreeing to participate but preferring to complete a written survey need to email his/her name, address to Barbara_Hobbs@sdstate.edu. Subjects volunteering for Phase one need not volunteer for phase two. Click on Phase One for more information.
Phase two: Subjects volunteering to participate in phase two, will wear an activity monitor continually for a five (5) day time period. The five day time period must include two 12-hour night shifts. Subjects will receive $10.00 per day of data collection for a total of $50.00. After completing data collection and returning the instrument, the subject will receive a gift certificate valued at $25.00. Click on Phase Two for more information.
