How to apply to the SDSU Computational Science and Statistics PhD program

 

You should have:

1.       Strong mathematics/statistics background or the ability to learn to pass one advanced statistics course and one differential equation course;

2.       For international students, a TOEFL score of 575 (paper-based exam) or 230 (computer-based exam);

3.       An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better, based on a 4.0-point scale, and

4.       Ability to do computer programming using any language.

 

The application process:

Application for admission and all supporting documents are received and evaluated by the Graduate School. They are sent for review to the Math/Stat department. Using the recommendations made by the department, the Dean of the Graduate School acts on the application and notifies the applicant and department.   A telephone interview is required of those accepted into the program who desire an assistantship.

 

1.    Find application form here. For international students you need to fill in this form.

2.    Essential supporting documents:

a.       Two letters of recommendation (using this form or a regular letter);

b.      Official transcript for Bachelor’s and Master’s study;

c.       TOEFL score (GRE is optional);

d.      Application Fee $35 in terms of certified checks, money order, or credit cards(include expiration date and name of holder);

e.      A one-page personal statement of your motivation and plan for the PhD program (optional).

3.    All documents should be sent to the SDSU graduate school, not the Math/Stat. department.

4.    Deadlines: Applications should be received by March 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester.
