Park Cities Mathematical Institute

A program organized by the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton).  Location is a resort in Utah- food and lodging is provided.  On this webpage, click on "undergraduate summer school."

SMALL Undergraduate Research Project

June 15- August 14

Application due date:  February 11, 2009

This is the only REU (that we can find) which does not require students to be U.S. Citizens.  The Project is at Williams College in Williamstown Massachusetts and is a well-known, prestigious program.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln 2008 Summer Research Program.

Priority Deadline: February 16, 2009

Final Deadline:  March 2, 2009

Summer Research program in Applied Mathematics and a separate program in Bioinformatics.  Applicants must have at least sophomore standing and have strong recommendations.  The Program is June 2-July 26. Stipend:  $3,000 plus travel, room and board.  Deadline for application: March 3

Carleton College Summer Mathematics Program for Women Undergraduates

June 21 - July 19, 2009

Application due date: February 19, 2009

This summer program is for talented female math students who are completing their first or second year of college.  This includes room, board, and a stipend.  Application date is February 22, 2008.

University of North Carolina at Asheville

George Washington Summer Program for Undergraduate Women

A five-week (June 30-- August 1, 2008) intensive program for mathematically talented undergraduate women who are completing their junior year and may be contemplating graduate study in mathematical sciences.  Sixteen women will be selected. Each will receive a travel allowance, campus room and board, and a stipend of $1,750.

Application deadline is February 27, 2009. Early applications are encouraged.

Hope College REU

This program runs June 1- July 24.  Topics this year are Statistics (genome project), Algebra and Topology, Graph Theory (pebbling), Zeros of a polynomial, Geometric Spirals.  Chosen students will be working with a faculty member on one of these topics- see webpage (project descriptions) for prerequisites for each project.

Application deadline is February 27, 2009, but applications are being taken now.

Iowa State University REU

This program runs June 7-August 1.  There are many topics, but the Mathematical Biology topic is one in which Dr. Biesecker has some experience.

University of Nebraska Lincoln Immerse program

June 22- July 31, 2009

Application Deadline  March 2, 2009   Notification by April 1, 2009

Qualifications:  US citizen or permanent resident
Intent to enroll in a graduate program in Mathematics (in which the Ph.D. degree is offered) for Fall 2009 semester.

Stipend:  $3,000 plus up to $500 for travel. Room and board provided on campus.

Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics

June 8 - July 17, 2009; Application Deadline March 6, 2009

This program at University of Wisconsin, Madison, gives undergraduate students majoring in the quantitative sciences the opportunity to explore a career in biostatistics and bioinformatics emphasizing applications in both basic and clinical research.

Mathematics on the Northern Plains

Undergraduate conference- you can give a talk or listen to other undergraduates give talks.  This conference rotates through several regional universities.  This year it is at North Dakota State University.

South Dakota Space Grant Consortium

The announcement (application and instructions) for the student Fellowship/Scholarship Stipend Program sponsored by the NASA SD Space Grant Consortium is now posted online at the following website.  Under this announcement, undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at SD institutions of higher education may apply for stipends for Fall ’08, Spring ’09, and/or Summer ’09 The application deadline is 4:00 p.m. October 3, 2008.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Budapest Semesters in Mathematics

Through this program, mathematics and computer science majors in their junior/senior years may spend one or two semesters in Budapest and study under the tutelage of eminent Hungarian scholar-teachers. The instructors of Budapest Semesters in Mathematics are members of Eotvos University and the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the two institutions known for having educated more than half of Hungary's highly acclaimed mathematicians. Most instructors have had teaching experience in North America and are familiar with the cultural differences.  All courses are taught in English.

Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics

Conference participants will have a chance to learn about life in graduate school from the perspective of current women graduate students representing math departments from across the country.   Registration deadline is December 12, 2008 (will close when program is full).
