Blue Waters Undergraduate Petascale Education Program

Blue Waters Undergraduate Petascale Education Program (UPEP) is supporting 17 undergraduate petascale research internships this year. Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics

This program at University of Wisconsin, Madison, gives undergraduate students majoring in the quantitative sciences the opportunity to explore a career in biostatistics and bioinformatics emphasizing applications in both basic and clinical research.

Iowa State University REU

This program runs June 6-July 31.  There are both Math and Stat programs.  In 2010 all student must be nominated by an Alliance mentor or must be a member of an under-represented minority.

Mathematical Biosciences Institute

This program consists of two parts: (a) two weeks of introductory lectures plus short projects and a computer lab, and (b) a summer long research experience (6 weeks to be followed immediately after the 2 weeks) devoted to projects in the interface of mathematics, statistics, and biological sciences.

University of Nebraska Lincoln Immerse program

June 14- July 23, 2010

Qualifications:  US citizen or permanent resident
Intent to enroll in a graduate program in Mathematics (in which the Ph.D. degree is offered) for Fall 2010 semester.

Stipend:  $3,000 plus up to $500 for travel. Room and board provided on campus.

Budapest Semesters in Mathematics

Through this program, mathematics and computer science majors in their junior/senior years may spend one or two semesters in Budapest and study under the tutelage of eminent Hungarian scholar-teachers. The instructors of Budapest Semesters in Mathematics are members of Eotvos University and the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the two institutions known for having educated more than half of Hungary's highly acclaimed mathematicians. Most instructors have had teaching experience in North America and are familiar with the cultural differences.  All courses are taught in English.

Summer Program in Quantitative Sciences at the Harvard School of Public Health

June 1, 2010 - June 30, 2010

Application Due Date: February 15, 2010

The Summer Program is an intensive 4-week program, during which highly qualified undergraduates receive a whirlwind introduction to the fields of biostatistics and epidemiology and to the use of quantitative methods for biological, environmental, public health, and medical research. Room and board, travel, and a living stipend of approximately $1700/month is provided.  Other requirements: be a US citizen or permanent resident (proof of permanent residency must be provided) ; from a member of a group that is underrepresented in graduate education (African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaskan Natives, Pacific Islander or Multiracial/Biracial).;OR a first-generation college student (neither parent or legal guardian has a bachelor's degree) as defined by the U.S.Department of Education; OR a low-income student as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.

George Washington Summer Program for Undergraduate Women

A five-week (June 26-- July 31, 2010) intensive program for mathematically talented undergraduate women who are completing their junior year and may be contemplating graduate study in mathematical sciences.  Sixteen women will be selected. Each will receive a travel allowance, campus room and board, and a stipend of $1,750.
