LAB SAFETY:
bullet APPROVED GOGGLES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN THE LABORATORY. These goggles may be obtained at the SDSU Bookstore. Only approved goggles may be worn. If you do not have the appropriate safety goggles you will not be allowed into the laboratory. In addition, the laboratory instructor may give you a zero (0) for a weekly laboratory grade if you are not wearing your safety goggles.
bulletThere is a specific web page concerning safety in the laboratory. You are required to watch the video on this web site and to complete a safety quiz during your first laboratory session. You are responsible for working safely at all times. Points may be subtracted from your laboratory grade if it is noted that you are not practicing laboratory safety.
bulletAppropriate attire must be worn in the laboratory. Shorts, sandals, and exposed midriffs are not allowed.
PROCEDURES:
bulletREAD EACH LABORATORY PROCEDURE PRIOR TO COMING TO LAB. IN ADDITION, YOU MUST COMPLETE  THE PRE-LABORATORY EXERCISE AND TURN IT IN BEFORE YOU MAY BEGIN THE LABORATORY PROCEDURE.
bulletYour laboratory instructor will discuss important information about each experiment at the beginning of each laboratory.
bulletYou will also find a web page specific for each experiment. This page will have demonstrations of techniques for that experiment, specific safety instructions, and disposal instructions for any chemicals used. BE SURE TO REFER TO THE WEB PAGE  DURING THE EXPERIMENT.
bulletThe web page also contains a check-list that must be printed off and completed prior to each laboratory session. It should be turned in with your laboratory report at the end of each lab session.
bulletYou will work in pairs for each experiment. Complete the lab report as you do the experiment.
bulletCLEAN YOUR WORK AREA AND WASH ALL GLASSWARE BEFORE LEAVING THE LAB.

LAB REPORTS:

Both pre-laboratory and lab reports are found in the lab manual. Pre-laboratory reports are due at the beginning of the lab period. Lab reports are to be turned in at the end of the laboratory.  In addition, there may be some additional questions to be answered found on the web page for a particular experiment. Each pre-lab report will be worth 5 points. YOU MAY NOT BEGIN THE LABORATORY UNTIL THE PRE-LABORATORY REPORT IS DONE. Lab reports will be graded on the basis of 20 points. It is the student's responsibility to submit lab reports before he/she leaves the lab and to pick up graded lab reports. If a mistake has been made in the grading of the lab report, you will have one week from the time the lab report was returned to resubmit it for grading. Any case of cheating, copying, or plagiarism will result in a grade of zero for that report. Late reports will not be accepted for grading.

ATTENDANCE:

Laboratory attendance is mandatory. You must attend the session in which you are enrolled. Any unexcused absence will result in a grade of zero for that experiment. Two unexcused absences will result in a failing grade for Chemistry 106L. If you have an excused absence, please make arrangements to make up the missed experiment as soon as possible. You may attend another laboratory session that is performing the same laboratory experiment  to make up the experiment provided there is room in that section and you have a signed Lab Make-Up Permission Form from Mrs. Pravecek.
